Buffer alternatives: an honest comparison
Buffer is a social media scheduler. You write a post, or draft it with its AI Assistant, and Buffer publishes it to LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, Threads, Instagram and six more networks at the time you set. It is free for three channels and $6 a channel a month after that. Buffer says plainly that it is not an AI tool: only the optional writing assistant uses AI. The alternatives split on whether your marketing is posting to social every week, or a funnel with more parts than that.
Written by marketinque, which is one of the alternatives below, so weigh it accordingly. Every price is read from the vendor’s own pricing page on the date above; nothing here is an affiliate link.

Common questions
How much does Buffer cost?
Buffer’s pricing page lists a Free plan for up to 3 channels, Essentials at $6 per channel a month or $5 billed yearly, and Team at $12 per channel a month or $10 billed yearly. Channels past 10 cost less, and both paid plans have a 14-day free trial. Prices read September 25, 2026.
Is Buffer an AI marketing tool?
Not by its own description. Buffer says it is not an AI tool: posting, scheduling and planning are not AI-powered, and the optional AI Assistant drafts and rewrites posts when you ask, using OpenAI models. Its help center says the assistant cannot open URLs and recommends fact-checking what it writes.
Does Buffer have a startup discount?
Yes. The Buffer Startup Program gives 50% off any paid plan for the first 12 months to companies with fewer than 50 employees, two years or younger, at pre-seed to Series A, and new to paid Buffer. Agencies and consultancies are not eligible, and it does not combine with other discounts. Terms read September 25, 2026.
Can I use Buffer and marketinque together?
Yes, and for a founder who posts to LinkedIn and X it is a sensible split. marketinque plans the launch and drafts across channels, holding each draft for your approval. It posts for you only on Bluesky, dev.to, your Discord and your consented email list, and hands you the approved draft for LinkedIn, X and the rest, which you can then schedule in Buffer. marketinque projects open by waitlist.
