Brief every page from the live results page
Read the live top ten before you brief a page: which page type wins, which secondary queries the leader also ranks for, which questions Google suggests, and what every result misses. Check your own site for a page already covering it. Then brief the gap, keyword first in the title, with one proof only you have.

The play
Before anyone writes, read the first page of Google for the target query: the page type that wins, what the first result also ranks for, the questions Google suggests, and what all ten skip. The brief comes from that reading, plus one thing only you can add, so the page is the right shape and not a copy.
How to run it
- Search the query logged out and read the top ten, not thirty. Note each result’s title and page type.
- Match the type. An article on a buying query, or a product page on a “how to” query, starts out wrong.
- Note what the first result also ranks for, and the questions in People Also Ask and related searches.
- Search your own site. If a page already covers the query, improve it instead of writing its twin.
- Write down what the top three almost cover and what they skip. That is the angle.
- Put the exact query first in the title. Then add the one proof only you have: a screenshot, your own number, a test.
Watch out for
- Read slowly and stop at the first CAPTCHA. An automated reader that hammers the results page gets its IP challenged.
- Competitors come last in the reading, only for what is still missing. A brief built from their outlines produces their page.

Plays like this one
- Tear down a famous company’s playbook, step by stepReverse-engineer how a famous company does the thing you know best — its onboarding, pricing, packaging, or funnel — with screenshots and honest critique. The brand’s name draws search and social traffic your own couldn’t yet, while the quality of your analysis converts borrowed attention into readers who trust your expertise.
- Work one keyword pattern, one row at a timePick one keyword pattern, a query shape with one changing word and one intent, and publish a page per variant, two a week, on one template. Choose the pattern your site’s authority can win today, check each variant for a top-ten result missing the exact query in its title, and give every page something only that variant can say.
- The definitive how-to guide for a task you solveWrite the definitive, genuinely complete how-to guide for a task your product makes easier, targeting “how to [task]” searches. Answer the question fully and for free; mention the product only where it honestly removes a step. Comprehensive how-to content ranks, earns links, and gets cited by AI for the underlying task.
- Brief an original data study from numbers only you haveOriginal statistics are the citation other writers need, and one solid study outranks years of opinion posts — but the numbers live in a database only the founder can query. Deliver the brief instead: the question, the cut of data that answers it, the methodology note, and the headline it would earn, every figure an explicit placeholder until the query runs.
