B2B Demand Generation

Demand generation for B2B: longer cycles, buying committees, and account-level intent — and how the playbook differs from B2C.

By The Marketinque TeamReviewed June 2026

B2B demand generation is the same discipline as any demand gen — create interest, capture it, convert it — aimed at a structurally different buyer. The purchase is made by a committee, not a person; the cycle runs months, not days; and the money being spent belongs to the company, not the buyer. Each of those facts changes the playbook, and ignoring them is how B2C tactics get ported into B2B and quietly fail.

You are marketing to a committee

A typical B2B purchase involves a handful of people with different stakes: an end user who feels the pain, an economic buyer who owns the budget, a technical evaluator, and often procurement and security. No single asset speaks to all of them. The practical consequence is that your content map needs an answer for each role — the user wants to see the workflow, the buyer wants the ROI math, the evaluator wants documentation and proof. And because most of the deliberation happens in meetings you are not in, the real job of B2B content is arming your internal champion to make your case without you.

Long cycles make nurture the backbone

When the gap between first touch and signature is two quarters, most of your audience is not ready at any given moment — and that is normal, not a failure. The nurture stage is where B2B programs are won: a cadence of genuinely useful touches that keeps you in memory until timing turns. This is also why raw lead volume misleads in B2B. An MQL that becomes an SQL in week two and one that converts in month nine are both wins; what matters is stage conversion and velocity, the rates the metrics guide shows you how to instrument.

The account is the unit of measurement

B2C counts people; B2B counts accounts. Intent rarely arrives as one clean form fill — it shows up as three people from the same company reading your comparison page in the same week. Account-based marketing works that signal deliberately: pick the accounts that fit the ICP, coordinate touches across the committee, and engage the moment interest concentrates. Outbound carries a governance edge here — cold email and social DMs sit right on the consent boundary, which is why a governed agent drafts them on autopilot but holds every send for human approval. The activate stage hub covers how the close gets prepped without the calls leaving human hands.

What does not change

The funnel math is identical: stages, conversion rates, and a single bottleneck worth fixing first. So is the discipline of working backward from revenue — take next year’s number, divide by average contract value, and walk it back through win rate and stage conversion to the pipeline you need and the accounts that must feed it. The pipeline goal calculator does that arithmetic for you, and the strategy guide sets the sequence around it. Long cycles raise the stakes on this exercise, because a pipeline shortfall discovered in Q3 was caused in Q1 — by the time the number looks bad, the fix is two quarters wide.
