How do you handle marketing as a solo technical founder?

Pick one channel where your buyers already talk, and do the unscalable things there by hand: answer their questions, write to people one at a time, and ship a page for each question you keep getting. Use AI to draft and to keep a list of what is next, not to decide or to post.

What did people in the thread say?

  • AI produced plausible marketing ideas and then fell apart on execution: it would suggest posting on Hacker News without any sense of how that actually goes. source
  • For one founder, the only thing that reliably worked was direct, personal outreach to people who might need the product. source
  • A founder who built an AI marketing generator found founders were not short of content at all; they were stuck on what to do first. source

What would we do?

  1. Choose one channel by where your buyers already ask for help, not by where you like to spend time.
  2. Write down the twenty questions prospects ask you. Each one is a reply, a page and a post.
  3. Write to people one at a time. Five personal emails a day are read; five hundred automated ones are not.
  4. Keep the work in an order: what is next, what is blocked, what can wait. The payment steps can wait until you charge.
  5. Count one number a week: signups, and where each one came from.

Where does marketinque help, and where not?

marketinque keeps the plan and its order, drafts the pieces, and nothing goes out without your approval. Its launch plan starts with the unscalable steps for this reason.

Where it does not: It does not build relationships. The calls, the replies and the one-to-one emails stay yours, and they are most of what works at this stage.

We build marketinque, so weigh this section accordingly. It is free while projects open by waitlist.
