Promote only in the designated promo threads

Most large subreddits run designated promotion threads — the one surface where pitching is explicitly welcome. Inventory the recurring threads in your niche, show up every cycle with a tight pitch and a real update, and never promote outside them. The restraint itself builds the account trust that later makes your ordinary posts survive moderation.

The play

Map the recurring self-promotion threads in your niche’s subreddits (weekly “share your project” posts, feedback Fridays) and make those the ONLY place you pitch — while participating normally everywhere else. Sanctioned promotion plus visible restraint compounds account trust.

How to run it

  1. List the subreddits your buyers read; note each one’s recurring promo thread, its day, and its format rules.
  2. Write a reusable 3-line pitch: what it is, who it is for, what changed since last time.
  3. Post in each cycle’s thread and answer every reply; skip a cycle when you have no genuine update.
  4. Track which threads drive real visits and drop the ones that never do.

Watch out for

  • The same pitch pasted unchanged every week reads as spam even in a promo thread — lead with what changed.
  • Never promote outside the designated threads in those same subreddits; the contrast is the strategy.
