Run a 90/10 contribution ledger

Keep an actual ledger of community contributions and hold a 9-to-1 ratio of genuine help to self-promotion — banked in advance, not promised after. The discipline compounds twice: the answers themselves surface your expertise where buyers already look, and the account’s platform trust score rises, which is what decides whether future posts render at all.

The play

Treat community participation as a scheduled practice with a running ledger: for every planned promotional post, bank nine genuine contributions first — answers, resources, corrections — logged with links. The ledger keeps the ratio honest and the account’s trust score compounding.

How to run it

  1. Pick 2–3 subreddits where your buyers actually are; lurk a week and note the questions that recur.
  2. Schedule 3–4 contributions a week: real answers, useful resources, corrections with sources — log each with a link.
  3. Only when nine are banked does one promotional post go out, and it follows the subreddit’s own promo rules.
  4. Review the ledger monthly: which contributions drew replies or DMs tells you what your buyers actually want.

Watch out for

  • The nine must be real contributions someone thanked or upvoted — filler comments count against you, not for you.
  • Ratio discipline does not launder repetition: the same link posted across subreddits is spam at any ratio.
